Dream A Little Dream Of WPRB

Sleep: it’s not the most-used word in WPRB’s vocabulary. But there are times that we do it, and sometimes we have dreams about this place. Last night, Cody (Station Manager) and Maria T (yours truly) both had WPRB-related dreams. So now we feel inspired to share these stories, as well as some told to us by our extended family.

(And while we’re on the topic of dreaming, here’s Athens, GA power pop group Dream So Real’s Myspace page.)

WPRB’s dream journal begins right behind the cut.

“My favorite WPRB dream is the one where I am back in town to visit and do a sub show, and not only is there the awkwardness of being on mic again after a long hiatus, someone has decided that the best thing to do is to have the entire record library and CD library reorganized… by color of the album cover!

So I’ve 30 seconds left on a track and I’m trying to remember what music to play and I know that Feelies are blue and Big Black is green – but I can’t remember other things… Is Agent Orange orange?

And then I’m out of time: DEAD AIR.” – Jannon S. (Trustee, occasional sub, and former DJ 2000–2004)

“I graduated 20 years ago, and I still have the same exact one to this day: there’s dead air, and someone has rearranged the station (this is Holder Hall) so that the only records in the booth are classical, and some really bad stuff in old emph. So I go racing around the station trying to find at least one decent rock record, and it’s just miles of classical, maybe some jazz, and there’s been dead air now for about a half hour. Then I wake up.

See? Boring, basic anxiety dream. But it just never changes – the smell of Holder Hall is exactly the same each time.” – Mary Lynne ’88

“I dreamt that the DJ after me last night said “This is WFMU” while on the mic. JP (Program Director) was in the room and thought this was funny, so he said “This is WXPN,” and Julia Factorial was all, “Guys, you CAN’T do that!” Then ‘PRB alums Maura & Andrew C. walked into the studio. I had to wake myself up to make sure this wasn’t actually happening.” – Maria T (of “Her Jazz”)

pretty much accurate, except throw in more anxiety and thinner cover, virtually impossible to discern at a moment’s glance…and me muttering: “who came up with this idea?”my brain, apparently.
