Tune in now for a new series from WPRB News The Dispatch: Voices on Same Sex Marriage.  In this two part series (airing Sunday 12:00-1:00pm Oct 25 and Nov 1) we look at how different groups have engaged the issue of gay unions.  This week, Leif Johnson takes a look at what happens when a University is asked to take a political stance, Sophie Jin visits a march in Washington DC, and historian Neil J. Young explains how one particular religious denomination, the Church of Latter Day Saints, became involved in the passage of California Proposition 8 last year.

A Conversation with Charlie Gibson

During the membership drive, Nikki Leon sat down with former WPRB News Director Charlie Gibson (ABC) to discuss his retirement, his views on the future of broadcast journalism, and his memories of his time at WPRB.  You can now listen to an archive of the broadcast (and check out the News Department’s new website) here.

WPRB News returns

From now through January, catch WPRB News programming every Sunday from 12:00 to 1:00 EST on WPRB Princeton 103.3FM and streaming live at wprb.com. The hour will feature different WPRB News shows on a rotating schedule. This week, tune in for two half-hour interview programs: Taking On @ 12pm EST and Discourse @ 12:30pm EST.

Taking On is a new show, hosted by Aaron Smargon and Nicholas Tagher, that focuses on politics and economics. Their first guest is physician and former Republican Senate Majority leader Bill Frist.

Discourse, entering its fourth season, covers everything from economics to the arts. This week, Princeton Electrical Engineering Professor Paul Prucnal discusses how innovation in the field of fiber optics is shaping the future of digital communication.

Check back here on Sunday at 12pm to listen to both shows.

10/15 at 8AM: Tribute to Louis Rosenblatt on "Towe On Thursday"

Beginning at around 8 AM, ‘Towe on Thursday’ on October 15, 2009, will feature a memorial tribute to the artistry of the late, great Louis Rosenblatt, principal English horn player in the Philadelphia Orchestra for more than 30 years.  My special guest will be Mr. Rosenblatt’s son, Bill.

Some of Louis Rosenblatt’s greatest recordings, including Sibelius’s ‘The Swan of Tuonela’, Dvorak’s ‘New World’ Symphony, and Rodrigo’s ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ will be played.  Also privately made recordings, including LR’s solo debut with the Phildelphia Orchestra (Honegger’s ‘Concerto da camera’) will be aired.

Rock Blastaar: Series One – Episode Seven.

Come With Us On A Journey Through Time And Space!

WPRB has posting the first series of Rock Blastaar on the station blog to get listeners up to speed before the start of this year’s Membership Drive. These seven episodes were originally produced during the first-annual WPRB Membership Drive in October 2007, with the final episode being recorded and broadcast live!

In the first series, we heard our heroes, Rock Blastaar and the Radio Rangers battle a deluge of robots, anarchists, and diabolical scientists in their quest to retrieve WPRB’s stolen music library from the cretinous supervillain, Dr. Cosmo!

This year the series returns with an all new story and slew of enemies for Rock to clash with, not as a Radio Ranger, but as a Private Investigator managing his own firm here on Earth! He’s not in it alone, however, as he’ll be getting lots of help from the familiar faces of pevious cast members Daphne Willmington, Ranger Ray, the evil Dr. Cosmo, and more! Tune in for action, adventure, intrigue and mystery this October for the second season of the Adventures of Rock Blastaar!

Get caught up on what you missed the first time around…
