Fri 4/12: Serenade to a Cuckoo hosts Dr. Anthony Branker

Just in case you were feeling particularly confident about your accomplishments, we thought we’d introduce you to Dr. Anthony Branker–a composer, arranger, jazz educator, conductor, bandleader and scholar.

Dr. Branker will be hosted on Jerry Gordon’s Serenade to a Cuckoo on Friday, April 12, 12PM to 2PM.

He’ll be spinning jazz CDs, talking about his career, and discussing the award-winning jazz program he heads at Princeton.

Dr. Branker just released his newest album, Uppity, on March 19th.

He composed his last album, Blessings, during a residency in Estonia, and was described by John Barron in 2009′s All About Jazz as music with a “…strong rhythmic foundation, with Afro-Cuban inspired grooves and solo sections over energetic vamps…With a unique combination of depth and accessibility, Branker is able to put forth a jazz perspective steeped in soulful optimism.”

Live Review: The xx & Austra at the Electric Factory

By DJ Iri (Mondays from 11-1 AM)

I bought that ticket faster than you can say, “Ugh, ticket resellers.”

Holler at Art All Night On June 16-17!

Despite the fact that I’ve been living in good ol’ Jersey for two years now, I went to Trenton for the first time in my life on Sunday. My fellow WPRB summer staffers and I were attending a volunteer orientation session for Art All Night Trenton, and let me tell ya, this event is going to be cool.

We entered the Roebling Wire Works site where the event will be held, and I felt like I was at the 1889 Parisian Exposition ie it was very industrial, very hip (yes, hip can be applied to 19th century France), and had a great, open feel for a 24-hour arts event.

Art All Night 2k10!!!

Better late than never! Last weekend we were lucky enough to bring some turntables and t-shirts to Art All Night 2010 in Trenton. If you ask me, the event was a massive success. We saw some great art, ate some delicious food, met some awesome people and listened to a boatload of fantastic tunes.  I don’t know who took these pictures, but they were on my camera the next morning. Take a look. You know you want in on this next year.
