Hey WPRB listeners,
I’m Ellie, one of the new staff members introduced and interviewed on the last show (Feb. 17th).
Last week’s show was my first-ever radio show. Not my first radio experience (I’m a radio junkie, let’s be honest), but my first-time behind the scenes. It was so much fun. After tiptoeing into the studio, praying I wasn’t making a noise that would be noticed on-air, I was somewhat intimidated by the towers of audio equipment on either side of the ominously blinking soundboard. After listening to Alex and Rich host like pros, however, I was able to settle in to my chair.
You can’t see it, but some great faces get pulled in the studio. We were all learning, so I’m sure there will be fewer funky-expression moments in the future. Our co-director and radio veteran extraordinaire, Jackie, even convinced me to read a PSA. I had my doubts, but after the first heart-stopping moment of being up against the mic, it was far more exhilarating than I had imagined. To cap it all off, Vince Presti’s off-the-cuff analysis of Downton Abbey’s season finale had everyone in the studio pretty much floored. What impressive improv skills. I hope he comes up with something like it next week. At any rate, it was a fitting end to a great show.
It was an exciting first show, and I can’t wait for it to happen again next week. I’m thrilled to be part of WPRB for this semester, and I hope that you’ll tune in as many weeks as you can find the time. The co-directors have put together a great line-up of stories and other material, and it promises to be a great Spring (that’s coming again soon, right?). Until next Monday.
