Classical at WPRB

The classical music tradition at WPRB began over fifty years ago. Today Morning Classical airs on weekdays from 6:00 am - 11:00 am, Saturdays from 7:00 am - 9:00 am, and Sundays from 7:00 am - 10:00 am, with Sunday shows being entirely devoted to opera.

The Morning Classical staff consists of twelve knowledgeable and enthusiastic disc jockeys, many of whom are experienced musicians themselves. If you've heard a piece you liked and would like more information on the piece, performers, or recording, drop us a line at classical@wprb.com. You can also use this e-mail address to contact the Classical Director.

WPRB is committed to maintaining high standards of quality and variety for the music that we program. In a single program one is likely to hear Haydn juxtaposed with Hindemith, Palestrina following Part, or Bach preceding Bernstein. As you listen you will hear classic recordings of the past century's great performers and conductors as well as recordings that have been released within the last month or so. We play pieces in their entirety so that you can hear them as the composers meant them to be played, as you would hear them performed in concert. We are pleased to offer our classical programming as both a pleasure and challenge for the listener. We appreciate your support by programming 103.3 fm into your stereo and by spreading word of our station to others.

What makes Morning Classical great?

  • Classical department policy dictates that no piece be repeated within a six week period in an attempt to ensure the widest possible scope of musical enjoyment and enlightenment.

  • Our unique library system enables us to play newly released albums within a week of when they are received, so that you can keep up with all the new recordings of your favorite pieces and performers.

  • As part of our partnerships with local concert venues such as Richardson Auditorium and McCarter Theater we frequently give away tickets on-the-air for excellent classical music events in and around the listening area.

Special Shows

Opera
Our host on Sunday mornings from 7:00 am - 10:00 am is Sandy, who has been an opera lover since the age of 10. Sandy graduated from Syracuse University where she majored in Music History. Please visit her webpage to find the schedule of opera programs that will be aired over next month. You will also find hundreds of photographs of great opera singers sporting the costumes of the roles they have played.
