Matt Cook scores an empty net goal with three-and-a-half minutes remaining to make it 5-2, and that’s how the game ends. Game 3 tomorrow night at Hobey Baker Rink. 7:00 P.M. EDT start.
5:43 to go in regulation, Dan Bartlett scores second goal of the night. Union up 4-2.
End of the two, and the bleeding continues. Princeton trails Union 4-1.
End of the first period at Hobey Baker Rink. Poor puck handling by the Tigers in their own zone allow Union to take a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. Three-and-a-half minutes end, a giveaway by Lee Jubinville allowed Union’s Mario Valery-Trabucco to score by slapping the puck above the shoulder of goaltender Zane Kalemba, giving Union the early 1-0 advantage. At the 9:59 mark, Brendan Milnamow scored on a wrist shot from the slot, making the lead 2-0. Assists on that goal credited to Matt Cook and Kelly Zajac.
I must also add that this game has been very physical. It looks as if Union’s aggression has gotten to the Tigers’ heads. Princeton has not gotten a good look yet at the goal, but Union has had several opportunities in front of the net. Lots of pushing and shoving before, during, and after the whistle, but no penalties called yet.
In other Princeton sports news from today: Princeton men’s lacrosse fell to Hofstra by the final score of 9-7. That loss is the Tigers’ first of the year, as they now drop to 4-1. Princeton women’s lacrosse defeated Penn State by the count of 9-7, improving their record to 3-1.
